Scientific interests

Clinical SPECT.

Since 2002, I’ve been working in our SPECT laboratory. My research has primarily been concentrated on the dopamine system in movement disorders and on how SPECT imaging in early stages of disease can contribute to a final diagnosis. Through my research, I’ve been dealing with SPECT imaging in various diseases that all in common have Parkinson symptoms (referred to as parkinsonism) which besides Parkinson’s Disease include: Atypical Parkinson’s Disease (Corticobasal Degeneration, Multisystemic Atrophy, Progressive supranuclear Paresis), Lewy Body Dementia, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus spinocerebellar ataxia 3 and also differential diagnoses to the above: essential tremor, depression, dystonia and Alzheimer’s disease. So far my publications have primarily been on methodological issues for SPECT imaging on the dopamine transporter with the radioligand [123I]PE2I.

SPECT imaging in functional neurosurgery: normal pressure hydrocephalus, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.
